User Submitted Tips

  • I just had a catastrophe trying to build my own backyard fence. So, I wanted to be a good citizen and let everyone know what happened-that way, maybe it won't happen to you! I thought I knew what I was doing, so I went to the local hardware store and bought all of the fencing supplies I would need-or so I thought! I got home, and was ready to begin digging my first hole, when I realized that I had forgotten at least one-third of my list. So, my advice to you: research the equipment you would need to build a fence. Then, ask the sales associates for more advice. It will save you so much time. My lack of being prepared cost me at least four hours of work.
  • I moved into a neighborhood and have a grumpy old neighbor right next to me. The very unfriendly neighbor provoked me to get a fence. I didn't get just any old fence, but I got a privacy fence. This wood fencing can be four to eight feet high to offer maximum privacy. Before having my wood fencing installed, I called several different fencing stores and had them come out to give me a free estimate. I have had my wood fence for about two years now, and it is holding up great. I think the next step will be to seal my fence with a waterproof sealant. This will help my fence to last for years to come and be the perfect barrier between me and that cranky neighbor.
  • With a toddler and a small puppy waddling around, I am in desperate need of a backyard fence. So, I went to the fence store for some ideas on what I should get. I never, in my wildest dreams, would have realized the variety of fences available for your backyard. This fence store had iron fences, chain fences, wooden fences-the list just goes on and on. So, being overwhelmed, I shut down. I went home and did what I do best: research. I wrote down everything I wanted in a fence: privacy, safely, and a lock. Then, I read about the different types of fences until I found the one that fits my family best. So, before you go to any fence stores, I suggest you do some research. Know what you are looking for, because there are a ton of fences out there!
