User Submitted Tips

  • My buddies and I have decided to have a beer tasting party. I wasn't sure if there were any rules to tasting beer, like there are when tasting wine. So, I did some research, and I found that there are actually quite a few rules out there. One rule is not to eat while doing the beer tasting. This actually can change the taste of the beer. A lot of people also suggested drinking water after each beer to cleanse the ol' palette. I guess beer tasting is just as sophisticated as wine testing after all! The best tip I found was to go from light to dark, since the dark beers are stronger. I'm now on my way to becoming a beer connoisseur!
  • Nothing tastes better on a hot summer day than a cold beer in a frosty beer glass! I don't like drinking beer from a bottle or especially a can. I bought a kegerator online several months ago, and it's the best purchase I have made in a long time. My local liquor store will order kegs of my favorite beers for me. This is perfect for my collection of beer glasses and friends. We all gather at my house on Friday nights to enjoy each other's company and a nice cold frothy beer.
  • I know my beers boys and there are some new brews we all need to embrace. Right down the row I see a new breed of wheat and hoppy beers on the horizon. My traditional choice is the ole Budweiser and Bud light brews from the U.S. But the new micro brews we're making are about to blow it up. Love them! The flavor over load that I've experienced with these new micro brews is awesome. The new clean and bright flavors they're brewing up now are amazing.
  • I'm a beer-buying dog, and I love the stuff. I buy beer normally by the six and twelve pack. Well guess what? I've been making some really bad beer buying choices. Apparently there are clubs that boast the best beers in the country for a great price. I missed out for years, though today I'm in the deal. Buying the good suds at a great rate and ideal variety. Peace in the beer world is where I am, sampling the many various good brands across the globe.
  • The beverage industry really seems to be making a hit with all of these new energy drinks. I think that we must be living in a world of tired people, because everywhere I turn, I see energy drink billboards and even t-shirts. There are hundreds of these drinks available, in all sorts of flavors. The drinks contain vitamins, herbs, and caffeine. I decided to try one the other day, and I have to say, they definitely give you that extra boost you may need to get through the day. I wouldn't get into the habit of drinking them all the time-after all, they do have a lot of sugar, but they are good for a small energy boost every once in a while.
  • You are not going to believe this, but there is a difference in wine drinking depending on the glass you use. I used to drink wine from a cheap thicker wine glass. Then a friend got me a more expensive wine glass that was made with a thinner more fragile glass. It changed my wine drinking experience. The thickness of the glass is just one element when it comes to wine glasses. There are all different types. You can get stemmed on stemless wine glasses. You can also get wine glasses that are best suited for particular types of wines.
  • I just recently became a wine drinker, after my sister introduced to some of the best tasting white wines I've ever had. I never liked, and still don't prefer, warm wines. But, my sister told me about Riesling, and how sweet the flavor is. Plus, most white wines, like Rieslings, are chilled. Now, I love to drink these wines, especially with desserts. I do have to say, the best Rieslings generally come from Germany. If you are just getting into the world of wines, I would try a German Riesling first. Then, expand to the different countries and types of wines. You will be pleasantly surprised at how yummy wine is.
  • Wine is made by crushing and fermenting grapes, the color of the grapes define the color of the wine. Red wine gets its color by using red, deep purple and blue grapes; the color of the skin taints the juice inside of the grape during the fermenting process. It is best served at temperatures between 60-65 degrees. If it is served to warm then the alcohol taste is too strong and if it is served too cold then it starts to take on a bitter quality. There are special "red wine" glasses that allow for adequate surface area for your wine to breath, also swirling your glass before taking a sip also bring the flavor to life. On top of just being a great cocktail, red wine when drank is reasonable amounts has been shown to have great heart healthy benefits.
