User Submitted Tips

  • As an artist, I have discovered my new favorite drawing supply to be charcoal pencils. Though I still enjoy drawing with carbon and graphite, charcoal pencils really make my drawings stand out. Carbon pencils can do this as well, but the charcoal size makes it my favorite. The shading can be done quickly when I use charcoal. And, it darkens the picture without making it shiny-unlike graphite. The only part about using charcoal that I don't like is the fact that it is pretty much permanent-once the charcoal reaches the paper, there is no turning back!
  • I wanted a big piece of art over my bed rather than a headboard. I didn't want to pay the high prices for pre-made large pieces of art, so I decided to do my own. I purchased a large canvas, plaster, paints, brushes, and other miscellaneous tools. I went to a shop that specializes in art supplies so I could ask questions and get exactly what I needed. Because believe me, I am no artist! The sales associate was very knowledgeable and helpful. Not only did she tell me what I needed for the project, but she also gave me some helpful tips. I now have a beautiful piece of art hanging over my bed for more than half the price of those expensive pieces. And I am proud to tell my friends that I made it when they ask me where I got that cool art!
