User Submitted Tips

  • My son's school is now offering archery as an after-school sport. He is really interested in it, but I am a bit worried about the cost of the equipment. I looked into archery equipment to see how much the prices range. As I began to research, I realized that there are a wide range of archery equipment and supplies available. Some are pretty expensive, but some of the archery bows I looked at were fairly reasonable. Through my research, I also found that there are a ton of styles to choose from, including archery bows for beginners. I also found some archery bows available to rent. This makes my decision much easier! At least I know I won't have to invest a ton of money until my son is sure he will enjoy the sport.
  • I recently took my first bow hunting trip with a friend of mine. I quickly found out that I needed some practice. My accuracy with a bow was way off! I don't think I could have hit the broad side of a barn. So I went shopping for some archery targets. I didn't realize there were so many to choose from. There's your regular round bull's eye target. Then you've got the 5-spot target with five circles. There are also targets that look like cubes. I decided to get a 3D turkey target since that was what I was hunting. Of course, you can also get those 3D targets with bears or deer. Any how, whatever target you choose, make sure you can easily remove your arrows without damaging them. I learned my lesson! I am going to be prepared for our next hunting trip.
  • Nothing bogs down a good hunt other than junk arrows, tips, and bows. There are some high quality sights out there that for a couple extra bucks make a huge difference too. For the longest time I've been going without any weight added to my bow for balance. It was a simple adjustment that I put off, recently added the weight and has made a drastic difference in my accuracy. Here's a tip, don't think all the accessories are necessary and at the same time don't be blind like I was and think they aren't going to help.
