User Submitted Tips

  • Who doesn't like a good cowboy hat? I know I do. But, it is hard to find a good one in the city. Cowboy hat shops are all over online, though, but you have to do the fitting yourself. Just make sure you have a good tape measure, a good friend and you'll be alright. If it's quality you're after, stick to the big-name brands, they've been around that long for a reason. Also, some cowboy hat shops also sell matching boots to complete the look. Get along little doggies!
  • When I was little, I loved to try on hats in the department store while my mom shopped. So, I'm not little anymore, but I still love hats! Designer hat shops are all over the web, and you can find some really cute hats for really cute prices! One site had some hats for $200 and I almost quit looking. Then I decided to check the sale stuff and there were hats for only $20 and $30. Don't let the word "designer" scare you off! Sometimes the high markup means great deals at the end of the season!
  • Vintage hats are all over recently. It seems like every time you see a picture of an actor or musician, they are wearing some cool looking old hat. Where did they get it? My great-uncle used to have some hats that looked like that, but they didn't look that cool on him and I don't think I'd want to put on his hat, anyway! When looking for a vintage hat shop, remember that "vintage" and "used" are not the same. Try to find a vintage retailer, or if wearing someone else's hat gives you the willies, there are some really cool online vintage hat shops that sell reproductions of vintage hats, not the actual old things.
  • So, I bought my boyfriend a baseball cap for his birthday. How was I supposed to know that the kind with the little plastic snappy things on the back was not the one he wanted? I don't wear baseball caps! I had to go all over creation looking for a fitted baseball cap, which they don't sell where we live. Lucky for me, there are fitted hat shops online, so the day was saved. There was a huge selection, and since I had done such a crappy job before, I just let him pick out what he wanted. Make sure when you're measuring his head, though, that you do it a couple times, just to be sure.
